Art Program
All Indigo students are treated to a year-long, weekly, in-depth study of art as they work on a variety of projects and mediums such as rubber stamp creation, weaving, water colors, and self-portraits. Doreen Williams (pictured at right), a thirty year teaching veteran, shares her infectious love for the subject and teaches simple secrets that unlock the artist in every child. She also works closely with teachers to ensure that her lessons are aligned with, and integrated into the core curriculum.
Students are taught art history, vocabulary, and fine art concepts as per California content standards. How art concepts might be applied to, or found in, the working world is intrinsic to lessons. Each lesson builds upon the next, offering students the opportunity to evolve as they build their portfolios. The children love to demonstrate what they’ve learned at our Spring Art and Music Festival.
At a time when school budgets are being cut, Indigo students are fortunate to have high-level art instruction and access to quality tools and materials for more than an hour each week.
“Our artists at Indigo are passionate about their art and very creative. This
will be a lifelong activity they will take with them when they move on from Indigo,”
says Ms. Williams.
