Field Trips
Field trips are an exciting part of our Indigo program. The Indigo
community is committed to providing curriculum-based field trips as part
of the Indigo hands-on philosophy. Some important information about Indigo
field trips:
Each class experiences 8-10 field trips a year.
Field trips extend the curriculum.
Classroom teachers and parent field trip coordinators plan the trips.
Families are an integral part of field trips. Parents/guardians drive and
chaperone children on 3 field trips each year per child in the program.
Student/adult ratio on trips is approximately 4:1.
Some examples of field trips Indigo children have learned from and enjoyed:
Kindergarteners got a behind-the-scenes tour of
a local grocery store as part of their study
of our community.
1st graders built their own circuit boards and
completed a hair-raising circuit with their
bodies at the Berkley Hall of Science as part of
their study of electricity.
2nd graders experienced cultural traditions from around the world at
People Like Me" at the Mexican Heritage Museum as part of their
year-long theme of multiculturalism.
3rd graders saw and touched live animals and learned about their
adaptations at the Youth Science Institute as part of their biology unit.
4th and 5th graders ground acorns and visited an Ohlone Village at Deer
Hollow Farm as part of their inquiry into local history.
